“A man who is intimate with God is not intimidated by man.”
~ Leonard Ravenhill
You only have enough room in your heart for one thing: fear or faith. If you have faith in your heart, there’s no room for anything else.
And how do you find this faith?
Well, God puts it this way: “Perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18). Love is the antidote to fear and intimidation, and love brings us to a point of faith. Perfect love; not our warped, human sense of love that we see in our culture today.
God’s perfect love, which is so much higher and far beyond anything that we can come up with in our finite minds. And once we have glimpsed that love in our lives and know it for ourselves, fear has no chance against it. Fear is in a losing battle. Nothing can overcome the power of Jesus’ love for us.
So, the underlying point of this quote is that if you have experienced God, really experienced Him in the purest sense, in all His glory, love, truth, power, and goodness, then you have the knowledge and tools and guidance within your mind and spirit to fully uproot all fear, anxiety, intimidation, and all their other cronies from your life for good and replace them with faith and confidence.
Truly knowing God is more than just knowing about Him. It’s experiencing Him and everything about Him. That’s the only way you really know someone. And when you are intimate with God, your reasons for allowing intimidation into your mind will vanish.
I still have a long way to go in this. But, thank the Lord, I have come a long way from where I used to be.
So this is a challenge to you and to myself to take the next steps in our lives, whatever that may be, to come closer to intimacy with God, and in the process, become victorious over fear and intimidation.
